Plantation Molasses Blackstrap 31oz
Blackstrap molasses is a thick, dark syrup produced during the sugar-making process. It’s the byproduct left after sugarcane or sugar beets are boiled multiple times to extract most of the sugar. Unlike refined sugar or lighter molasses, blackstrap retains a high concentration of minerals and nutrients, giving it a bittersweet, robust flavor.
Key characteristics:
- Production: Made from the third boiling of sugar cane or beet juice, after most sucrose is removed.
- Nutritional profile: Rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin B6, but low in sugar compared to regular molasses.
- Taste and texture: Dark, viscous, and less sweet, with a slightly bitter edge.
- Uses: Used in baking (e.g., gingerbread), as a sweetener in health foods, or as a dietary supplement due to its nutrient density.
